Julio Duarte, Pharm.D., Ph.D.
Principal Investigator

Julio Duarte is an associate professor of pharmacy and medicine as well as Co-Director of the UF Center for Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine. He received his Pharm.D. as well as his Ph.D. in clinical pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Florida. He was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and Co-Director of the University of Illinois Hospital Personalized Medicine Program until returning to UF in 2015. Dr. Duarte has served as a grant reviewer for NIH, NSF, American Heart Association, and U.S Department of Defense. He is an elected Fellow of the American Heart Association and has received awards for his research from both UIC and UF. Dr. Duarte also serves as Graduate Coordinator of the Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences concentration within the College of Pharmacy’s graduate program.
Christelle Lteif, Pharm.D., Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Christelle’s research spans the translational spectrum from discovery to clinical outcomes to implementation. She has utilized genomics and transcriptomics to investigate potential therapeutic targets in pulmonary hypertension associated with left heart failure and has contributed to the development of an ancestrally inclusive preemptive pharmacogenetic panel intended for use in medically underserved populations. Her current research involves studying CYP2D6-related variability in opioid response and identifying genetic, clinical, and demographic contributors to opioid persistence and misuse, with the goal of advancing more personalized approaches to pain management.
Brian Gawronski, Pharm.D.
Graduate Student

Brian graduated with this Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and completed his PGY1 residency at St. Joeseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He is currently pursuing his PhD. Brian’s current research aims to improve preemptive pharmacogenetic testing implementation, especially in medically underserved populations, with the goal of equitable improvement in individualized medication prescribing. Brian also has interests in precision medicine, pharmacogenomics discovery, and translational science methods.
Rylie Flohr, B.S.
Graduate Student

Rylie Flohr earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. Her research leverages a multi-modal approach to investigate the underlying mechanisms of heart failure, with the goal of improving diagnostic precision and identifying therapeutic targets for personalized treatment. Outside the lab, she enjoys spending time with her pets, maintaining an active lifestyle, and traveling to new places.
Angel Miranda, Pharm.D.
Graduate Student

Angel graduated with his PharmD the University of Puerto Rico – Medical Sciences Campus in 2024. His primary professional interests revolve around the strategic implementation of pharmacogenetics. He is particularly drawn to its application within psychiatric and substance use disorder treatment, aiming to optimize patient care. Currently, he is engaged in impactful work focused on bringing pharmacogenetic insights to underserved populations. Another project that he is involved in is identifying and understanding the variables that possibly influence opioid misuse.
Wandyenid Marquez Moyeno, Pharm.D.
Clinical Pharmacogenetics Fellow

Wandyenid Márquez Moyeno, a pharmacist from Puerto Rico, is deeply passionate about advancing precision medicine to serve diverse and underrepresented populations better. In her free time, she is an advocate for movement and mindful living, engaging in activities such as CrossFit, yoga, cycling, and running. She is thrilled to be embarking on a new chapter in Gainesville and is eager to join a community that is at the forefront of pharmacogenetics. Her enthusiasm is matched only by her commitment to learning, growing, and contributing to a future where personalized medicine is the standard of care.
Alejandra Nogueira, Pharm.D. Candidate
Student Research Assistant

Alejandra is a fourth-year student pharmacist at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy with an interest in pursuing clinical pharmacy and research after graduation. Alejandra has always enjoyed pharmacogenomics since it combines her interests in patient care and the field is constantly evolving. She joined Dr. Duarte’s lab during her second year and led a project studying the role of RYR2 in a heart failure mouse model previously developed by the lab.
